Top Android Apps for the Classroom

The response to our Top Ten iPhone/iPad Apps for the Classroom and Beyond article and our follow-up blog NOVA's Top Ten: Business iPad/iPhone Apps was pretty positive.  So we thought we'd also feature some of the top educational apps that run on the Android operating system.

  1. GeoQuiz - Kill time, not brain cells! The GeoQuiz app from Brain CafeAndroid Logo tests your knowledge of the planet Earth and all its wonders. With its user friendly, touch sensitive interface, GeoQuiz makes learning fun and easy. 
  2. Whiz Kid - A colorful entertainment and educational application, or specifically - a game for children and their parents. Rules of the game are simple and intuitive.
  3. Memory Trainer - This app helps strengthen your spatial memory. Spatial memory is the part of memory responsible for recording information about one's environment and its spatial orientation.
  4. Deluxe Moon - The Moon is our closest celestial neighbor and the most prominent object in the night sky. Although the Moon is so much smaller than the Sun, it strongly affects everything on the Earth, including many aspects of your life.
  5. Kids Opedia - KIDS Opedia is an engaging and addictive app built for children to entertain, educate, and help them learn. As the name suggests it is a complete encyclopedia for kids.
  6. Document Scanner - Document Scanner allows you to scan documents with your phone's camera, convert them into PDF, and email the PDF document to anyone, all from your mobile phone. You can scan any number of pages and convert them into one single PDF file.
  7. Sapiens - Human Evolution at your Fingertips - With Sapiens discover human history with the human evolution frieze at your fingertips! See the fossils of ancestors from 7 millions years old to recent human species (sapiens sapiens). 
  8. Smart or Stupid Trivia Game - Answer the questions from all ten categories and see who has the highest I.Q.
  9. PlinkArt - PlinkArt is an app for your mobile phone for exploring famous artwork. The coolest feature of Plink Art is instant art identification. Just snap a photo and if the painting is in our database our visual search system will recognize it and tell you all about it.
  10. Kids Connect the Dots - This is a dot-to-dot game for preschoolers. Join all the dots and reveal a nice colorful image. Fifty-plus puzzles. Labels: numbers (123), upper case letters (ABC), and lower case letters (abc). There are "tap" and "draw" modes.
These are just ten of the most popular Android apps for the educational, technology-enhanced classroom.  All of these are available via the Android Market.
